Founded in 1873, MassArt is the first free-standing public college of art and design in the United States. The College excels in the education of professional artists, designers, and art educators and is an integral contributor to the cultural and intellectual life and creative economy of the Greater Boston region, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond. Located in Boston’s hub of arts and culture along the Avenue of the Arts, MassArt enrolls over 2,000 students and offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in 18 disciplines, as well as continuing education and youth programs.
The Print Services Technician (PST) is responsible for assisting students, faculty, staff, and other patrons utilizing resources in ‘The Lab.’ The Lab comprises a variety of endpoints, and capture and output devices, including printers, scanners, and related equipment, in three classrooms and a common space.
The PST serves as a knowledge resource for capturing input and generating output from a variety of devices and supported creative applications taught by campus faculty.
The PST is a member of the Client Services Team, and reports to the Manager of Print Services.
Salary: $50k - $60k, commensurate with skills and experience
Supervision Exercised
This position supervises the activity of a shift of one to two student workers, available from a pool of six to ten student employees.
Communications
The PST is often the first point of contact for print requests. The incumbent is also responsible for creating and distributing support documentation for the MassArt community. The incumbent is responsible for the printing and delivery of signage and other printed materials through various locations on campus.
Working Conditions
The shift for this position may be staggered to support the academic needs of The Lab space, or the training needs of student employees, which may include working outside of normal business hours, weekends, or holidays.

The PST regularly makes decisions to provide and improve customer service, and delivery of print services. Failure to provide prompt and satisfactory customer service could result in unsatisfied customers unable to participate in coursework or complete work-related tasks.

The PST is responsible for directly supporting the MassArt community with access to and assistance with a large array of print and output services. As technologies, standards, and best-practices may change over time, the incumbent is expected to assist with technology transitions.

Summary of Duties

Operations

  • Assist Print Services Manager in procurement, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of equipment, consumables and facilities within The Lab space.
  • Provide second tier support for print based solutions (i.e., web to print, wireless printing, etc.)
  • Provide second tier support for printing, scanning, and multi-function devices, ensuring professional and consistent customer service delivery during hours of operation.

Documentation

  • Document issue troubleshooting steps and resolution in the help desk ticketing system.
  • Prepare user documentation for public and internal technology knowledge bases.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory and inventory records, and the decommissioning of equipment in accordance with institutional and Commonwealth policies and guidelines.

Student Worker Coordination and Training

  • Assists Manager of Print Services with scheduling and coordinating the activities of student employees.
  • Trains student employees on department policies and procedures, hardware and application troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Trains student employees on customer service excellence and professionalism.

Outreach

  • Assists the Manager of Print Services with the delivery of signage and printed materials for departments throughout campus.
  • Assists the Manager of Print Services, Director of Client Services, and Director of Academic Technology Services on communicating information to the MassArt community about services, application training, workshops, and other related information in a proactive manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Education: High School or Equivalent
Experience: 1+ years experience in customer service, technical support, sales, or print services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Skills

  • Demonstrated experience supporting printing, print management software and scanning in a service bureau, business, or educational or nonprofit institution.
  • Familiarity with graphic design, digital video and animation software.
  • Experience configuring, administering, and supporting PaperCut print management software.
